Whether you're curious about licenses, maintenance, or finding the perfect floorplan, the 4th-generation experts at Fretz RV are here to help you navigate the world of RVing.

What are the different types of RVs? +

RVs are divided into Motorized (driveable) and Towable (hitched) categories:

  • Class A: Large, bus-style luxury coaches.
  • Class B: Nimble camper vans (like the Winnebago Revel).
  • Class C: Mid-size with an overhead bunk (like the Jayco Greyhawk).
  • Travel Trailers: Standard hitch towables (like the Jay Flight).
  • Fifth Wheels: Heavy-duty trailers that hitch in a truck bed.

Do I need a special license to drive an RV in PA? +

For the vast majority of RVs, a standard driver's license is all you need. In Pennsylvania, a special non-commercial license is only required if your RV has a GVWR of over 26,000 lbs. Most travel trailers and Class C motorhomes fall well below this limit.

What is the best RV for beginners? +

We recommend Class C motorhomes or small travel trailers (under 25 feet) for first-timers. They offer a manageable driving/towing experience and intuitive systems that are easy to learn. See our top picks for beginners here.

Can I camp off-grid without hookups? +

Absolutely! This is called boondocking. Many modern RVs at Fretz RV come equipped with solar panels, lithium battery banks, and large fresh water tanks to support off-grid living for days at a time.

What kind of maintenance does an RV require? +

Think of an RV as a house in a constant earthquake. Key tasks include inspecting roof seals every 90 days, checking tire pressure, and winterizing your water lines if you live in the Northeast. View our Service Guide.
