The new and improved Winnebago ERA class B van camper is back! Winnebago ERA and Mercedes, two names signifying excellence. The 2012 ERA by Winnebago is built on the 11,030 lbs. GVWR Mercedes Sprinter 3500 chassis and features dual rear wheels for increased carrying capacity and stability. Winnebago also added new stylish improvements like the new exterior graphics, optional stainless steel trim package, optional aluminum wheels, and more. The previous Winnebago ERA model lacked some of the storage functionality of other class B motor homes, but Winnebago addressed that in the 2012 ERA by adding additional overhead storage, a wardrobe, and shirt closet. Since many Winnebago ERA buyers use their van as a luxury travel vehicle seating is important. Winnebago ERA added a larger, 70" electric sofa bed with 3 seat belts and 2 child seat tethers for a total of 7 seats with safety belts.
The Winnebago ERA was outselling all of its class B competitors building on the Mercedes Sprinter platform, so why did they take a year off of production?
According to Winnebago, it was decided that with the implementation of new Federal Diesel Emission standards required changes to the Sprinter Van, they chose to evaluate how to best enhance and improve the ERA . As far as I can see, the new Winnebago ERA was well worth the wait. Rather than rushing to get an inferior product to the market, Winnebago improved the ERA with better user functionality and enhanced features like increased storage, capacity, and value; certainly a winning combination that is sure to take the class B motor home market by storm.
