RV Exterior Pre-Inspection Check

  1. Check the tire pressure and do a visual inspection of the tires. Look for signs of unusual wear, sidewall cracks, or tread damage. Don't forget your spare tire either!
  2. Check the wheel lug nuts to make certain they are all properly torqued.
  3. Inspect all exterior lights (marker lights, brake lights, license plate light, flashers, etc.)
  4. Check and inspect the windshield for cracks and cleanliness.
  5. Check fluid levels (where applicable) including oil & windshield washer fluid.
  6. Check and secure exterior storage compartment latches for proper seal and that they are locked. Make sure items in the storage compartment are ready for the journey.
  7. Make sure that the sewer hose, water hose, and power cord are disconnected and properly stowed.
  8. If your RV is equipped with slide rooms, double check that the rooms are completely in and travel locks are in place (if applicable).
  9. Make sure that the entry steps are retracted and stabilizer jacks are up.
  10. Turn the LP service valve off by turning it clockwise and make sure all appliances are off.
  11. Make sure the TV antenna is down. If your RV has a crank up satellite antenna, make sure that is in the travel position.
  12. Inspect the patio awning, ensuring that it's in the travel position and that the travel knobs are snug.
  13. Fill the RV with enough fresh water for your trip.
  14. Check the hitch and coupler set-up on all towed connections (tow vehicle and trailer, or RV and car being towed). Also check the braking system for proper operation.
  15. Make sure your vehicle has a current state inspection and registration.

RV Interior Pre-Trip Inspection Check

  1. Check and secure all doors.
  2. Check cabinet doors and drawers. Look and look for loose items that could cause damage in transit.
  3. Make sure heavy items are not stored in overhead cabinets.
  4. Make sure all roof vents are closed.
  5. Turn off all appliances; including the hot water heater, refrigerator, and water pump. Make sure nothing is on that you don't want on.
  6. Inspect the refrigerator and make sure all food items are secure. Try and pack things close together to reduce shifting while traveling. Double check that the refrigerator and freezer doors are properly locked.
  7. Make sure the stove cover is in the down position.
  8. As you inspect each area, turn the 12 volt lights off so they will not be on while you travel.
  9. Make sure all the windows are closed.
  10. Check for RV supplies (toilet tissue, toilet chemical, spare fuses, etc.)
  11. Check for a complete first aide kit. Replace any missing items.
